Depending on total registrations we will run:
One Four Team League playing either 4-on-4 OR 6-on-6.
There are advantages to each format but either format will provide players with a solid volleyball foundation.

EVALUATIONS
The first week of practice will be for skills introduction and  evaluations for team/league placement purposes.  All registered kids will be placed on a team and will play!

  PRIMARY Athletic OBJECTIVES
Local Leagues will be highly focused on skill development and participation. The underlying philosophy is that learning to do things right will ultimately produce right results. We want kids to learn to perform skills properly. We also want to give every kid an opportunity to test their skills in competition. Participation in these leagues will be open to as many kids as we can reasonably accomodate regardless of skill, athletic ability or experience. All kids who sign up (within the age and registration limits for each league) will be placed on a team and will play during gametime. To promise completely equal playing time across the board is not realistic. However, each participant will be given the opportunity to play.  The basic expectation is that kids faithfully attend practices, work at improving skills which will help their team and keep a good attitude.

Team rosters will be structured to minimize the number of players who will be "on the bench", but large enough to account for subs, injury, emergency, illness etc. The "athletic" goal of our youth leagues is give kids a sound understanding of the fundamentals the game. The emphasis will be on learning proper technique and strategy over just winning in the short term. For volleyball the primary skills of emphasis in our local leagues will be: forearm passing, setting, hitting (including proper approach, jumping technique and swing) and overhand serving.  The primary strategy emphasis will be on work to get a pass, set and hit as well as an understanding of the basic positional responsibilitesA more refined technical treatment of these skills and strategies will be applied as the age and skill levels increase.

Local Leagues should be a testing ground for kids to see if they have skills or affinity for a particular sport. If we can all just relax and recognize the role of these leagues, we will all be better off and won't stress out so much about the scores of these games. Understanding the purpose of these leagues will help the athletes, coaches and parents keep these leagues and games in perspective. As our seasons and leagues progress, please keep in mind the stated goals for our leagues and let the kids have fun!
